++TAUGSHOW #15++
Business Floing Special 2007 (during Roböxotica festival)

Friday, November 23, 2007 / 8:00 PM @ Brut, Konzerthaus, Vienna (presented by Johannes Grenzfurthner und Roland Gratzer)

Rudolf "Rudl" Sabastlinger and Josef "Peppi" Schoars are from the small village of Floing in Styria (Austria) and not very fluent in the English language. They were part of Beta_flab, an ambitious hack-space in Floing, and now they want to make some real money and create a successful start-up enterprise. But first they need to get vital info from the pros! And who are the pros?
Cory Doctorow, Sean Bonner, Evelyn Fuerlinger, GameJew, Tim Pritlove and Jeff Moss!

Fri November 23, 8:00pm, Brut (basement of Konzerthaus, Vienna)

Cory Doctorow (craphound.com) is an award-winning science fiction novelist and an advocate for Creative Commons. He co-edits the popular weblog Boing Boing (boingboing.net). His latest book is a short story collection called "Overclocked: Stories of the Future Present." He writes columns for the Guardian, the CBC, Locus Magazine, Information Week, and Make Magazine.

Tim Pritlove is a Discordian Evangelist and events organizer for the Chaos Computer Club. Tim is a long time computer hacker, events organizer and member of the Chaos Computer Club. Working as a programmer, teacher and consultant he played around with a variety of computer systems and computer networks since the early eighties. He is the organizer of the annual Chaos Communicaton Congress and the quadrennial Chaos Communication Camp. Tim is the coordinator and project leader of Project Blinkenlights that became famous for interactive light installations in public buildings. In another life, he is an assistant professor and system administrator at the University of Arts in Berlin.

Jeff Moss is the founder of Def Con, an annual hackers' convention held in Las Vegas since 1993, as well as BlackHat, a convention for security professionals. A former hacker, in high school Moss was a phone phreaker--someone who cracks into phone systems to make free calls. He was a law student for two years before switching to computer studies, and worked as a security consultant before focusing on conferences full time. We spoke with him about the state of Internet security and the role of Def Con in mentoring young hackers to be more ethical.

Sean Bonner has been putting things on the internet since 1994. As the creator of several widespread memes he has been featured in various media and has spoken on panels across the US about online communities and grassroots local journalism. As co-founder of Bode Media Inc, he helped create the Los Angeles group blog, Blogging.la, the flagship site of the worlds largest hyper local network of city based blogs, Metroblogging. Based in Los Angeles, he is currently the Entrepreneur in Residence at The Groop and recently consulted with the LAPD helping them get their own blog up and running. Previously he helped build the groundbreaking contemporary art gallery sixspace, ran his own design firm, and worked as Sr. Designer for Playboy.com and Creative Director for Victory Records while running his own label Toybox Records.

GameJew AKA Jonathan Mann, wants to uncover the stories you don't hear about in the world of video games. Games used for education, games in Africa, games made for a common good, games meant to push the boundaries, these are the stories that GameJew looks at. Game developers, game publishers, game theorists, game luddites, these are the people that GameJew is talking to.

Taugshow is a project by monochrom. But what is monochrom?

monochrom is a worldwide operating collective dealing with technology, art, context hacking, and philosophy which was founded in 1993. They specialize in an unpeculiar mixture of proto-aesthetic fringe work, pop attitude, subcultural science, and political activism. Their mission is conducted everywhere, but first and foremost "in culture-archaeological digs into the seats (and pockets) of ideology and entertainment."
Among their projects, monochrom has released a leftist retro-gaming project, established a one baud semaphore line through the streets of San Francisco, started an illegal space race through Los Angeles, buried people alive in Vancouver, and cracked the hierarchies of the art system with the Thomann Project. In Austria they ate blood sausages made from their own blood in order to criticize the grotesque neoliberal formation of the world economy. Sometimes they compose melancholic pop songs about dying media and they have hosted the first annual festival concerned with cocktail robotics. At the moment they're planning a conference about pornography as one of the driving forces of technological innovation. They also do international soul trade, propaganda camps, epic puppet theater, aesthetic pregnancy counseling, food catering, and - sorry to mention - modern dance.
