In comic strips of the early twentieth century,

a drawing of a saw cutting through a log was meant to represent the sound of someone snoring. Usually it floated from the head of a sleeping man, often an old man.

Here it is meant to represent the sound of the the democratic party machine, snoozing for the last twenty years.

and this is meant to represent the sound of all of our dreams, all of our aspirations, warming the feet of the hill people as they go up in smoke.
